The effects of watching funny videos on the reduction of pain


Research has revealed that watching enjoyable videos can help post-surgical patients. The study, which was published in the journal Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice, found that watching videos can help reduce pain felt by post-surgical patients.

  • Researchers from Marmara University Institute of Health Sciences in Istanbul, Turkey and Ataturk University Faculty of Health Science in Erzurum, Turkey examined how watching videos can help reduce pain in post-surgical patients.
  • They aimed to describe pain levels before and after watching funny and unfunny videos on post-surgical pain levels.
  • In the study, they divided 90 patients into three groups. One group watched funny videos, another group watched unfunny videos, and the third group did not watch any videos.
  • The researchers assessed the pain levels of the patients before, right after, and 30 minutes after watching the videos.
  • Results revealed that patients who watched videos, both funny and unfunny, experienced reductions in pain.
  • The findings of the study suggest that enjoyment in watching the video causes pain reduction.
